Make Hay at Jay’s Bar

Have you been looking for the best bar experience in the Silverlandia area? Do you want to drink where the big stars go to drink? The answer to both of these questions is the same: Jay’s Bar. Don’t like that unassuming name fool you – this is a great establishment. They have tremendous custom cocktails, food, and so much more.

The Award for Best Menu Options Goes to…

Jay’s Bar has been, over time, a place where Oscar-nominated celebrities come to drink. Does that mean they’ll be there when you’re there? No. (Although, they might be.) That said, what you can enjoy at Jay’s Bar at any time are the cocktails as well as their craft beers and top-notch food.

With a name like “Jay’s Bar,” you might assume that the menu options are limited but really, nothing could be further from the truth. There are plenty of unique items there. See, Jay’s Bar is actually a mixture of both American and Japanese American cuisine. So, (to use a brief example) there’s the legendary “Jay’s Burger” (a top notch hamburger) on the same menu with unique Japanese Dumpling Soup and Edamame. Here, you can find what you want.

A True Bar

You might think that a palace which can claim Oscar-nominated clientele would be very expensive, but not Jay’s Bar. Indeed, custom cocktails on their menu run the gamut from $12 to $16. Those are some of the best prices you’ll find not just in Silverlandia, but throughout Southern California.

Beyond the drinks, however, there are plenty of great house culinary specials as well. For example, wasabi and/or curry seasoning can really enliven Jay’s Bar’s already-great steak fries. Japanese Croquettes put a new spin on an old favorite. For more about Jay’s Bar, head to our site.

It Takes a “Village” for a Great Bakery and Cafe

Have you been looking for a great bakery in the greater Silverlandia area? There’s nothing quite like “The Village Bakery and Cafe.” Here, you can find all manner of delicious foods as well as a great place to sit. (After all, as of this writing, it’s late June/early July. The air conditioning that The Village has come in quite handy indeed.) Of course, there are plenty of great reasons to come to The Village that have nothing to do with staying cool.

Silverlandia

A Menu Fit for a Village

There are plenty of places that describe themselves online as “quaint.” The Village actually is. The very epitome of “quaint,” you’ll find that in everything from the dog-friendly patio to the delightful indoors. Of course, “quaint’ isn’t just in the decor – quaint is in the food, too. Indeed, everything at The Village has been handcrafted with the greatest of care. That comes through in the presentation as well as the taste.

From omelets to salads, cookies, cakes, and more, The Village truly lives up to the part of its title that’s “bakery and cafe.”

Outside, Inside, Everywhere

Open Monday through Sunday, The Village is open from 8 AM to 4 PM. So, while you won’t be able to have a delicious, candlelit dinner here, this is the perfect place for breakfast, lunch, brunch, or just when you want to get away from work for a while with a great meal.

They have a VIP list, too. With that, you’ll be able to get updates on any discounts they may have, events, and even some rewards, too. This is perfect for when you’re just leaving the gym, about to go into work, or looking for a great lunch spot for clients, colleagues, your beloved, or anyone else.

You can check out The Village for yourself right here.

The Morrison: for Sports, for People, for Everyone

Here in Silverlandia, we like to pride ourselves on having the best of everything. Sure, we know that there’s plenty of great stuff in and around LA (as well as, most likely, outside of Southern California as well). However, we’re very lucky to have so many top-notch locations right here in Silverlandia. For example, we have some of the best, most popular restaurants that you’ll find anywhere. Case in point: the Morrison. The original one, the one in Atwater Village, has been a favorite for so many for so long. One quick look (or bite) is more than enough to show why.

A Resume

It might be a bit odd to think of a restaurant as having a “resume,” but the Morrison really does. Over the years, it’s racked up quite an impressive list of awards. For example, LA Weekly found it to have the “best Happy Hour in LA.” If you’re looking for more than happy hour, they’ve got you covered there as well: Yelp had it rated as the “#7” overall restaurant in the entire United States. If you’re looking for something specific, such as burgers or a gastropub, Yelp liked it for those, too, seeing it as the number one for both in Los Angeles.

Silverlandia

An Experience

Now, you might have read the above and thought: “OK, so it’s good for burgers, a good happy hour, something of a gastropub, got it.” That’s a major part of the Morrison story, but far from all that Morrison has to offer. For example, it was also chosen as the best dog-friendly restaurant by USA Today and the LA Times’ top pet-friendly restaurant in LA, too. Of course, you can bring more than just dogs, as Yelp had it as LA’s best kid-friendly restaurant, too. Should you like to act like a child and/or a dog, it has all of the sporting events you might ever want, all live.

As Summer Gets Into Full Swing, Great Golfing in Los Feliz

Have you been looking to get out and golf during the summer? Are you looking for a place to golf that’s fun without being too competitive, too busy, and with a great cafe to boot? Then you can’t beat the 9-hole, 3-par course at Los Feliz. A mainstay of the Los Feliz golf scene for years, this is the kind of place where friendships are forged, love of the game begins, and, most importantly, good times are had. Better still – the course is back.

Fully Recovered from Remodeling

As some of you may remember, the course didn’t always look as great as it did now. In fact, members of the Silverlandia staff remember going to the course when it was being remodeled, only to find that you could play but a few of the holes. (At least you could play them as many times as you wanted before leaving.) All that’s done with, mercifully.

Today, the course looks as great as it ever did. There are many self-stylized “serious” golfers who may look down on a par-3 course. However, there are few better ways to work on your short game, to see what your irons really can do before you head out to a tournament. There’s certainly no better way to do so with family and friends.

Silverlandia

The Game Continues After the Course

If you’re looking at these pictures and thinking “that course looks vaguely familiar,” you’d be right – it was featured in the movie “Swingers.” There may even be movie nights during the summer so that you can do more than just swing the clubs. Of course, once the game is over, then one of the best parts begins: the post golf meal. If you’re like so many of us in Silverlandia, you’ve absolutely headed to the adjacent cafe without actually playing golf, as it is that good a diner.

The Modern Mediterranean in Atwater Village: Momed

Seemingly everywhere here in Silverlandia, there’s another great restaurant or cafe to check out. You could spend the rest of your life trying them all. We’re certainly going to give it a shot. One that’s near and dear to us has been around for about a dozen years now: Momed. A unique blend of North Africa and eastern Mediterranean cuisine, this is a fresh take on “farm to table dining.”

Modern Mediterranean

Really, that’s what “Momed” is basically short for. Singled out as a “Hidden Gem” restaurant by Eater Los Angeles in 2017, Momed has actually been open for a decade. While those of who have been in Silverlandia for years may have been aware of it, it’s entirely possible that Momed would have a higher profile without the pandemic. Indeed, “Open Table” chose it for a Diners’ Choice Award on February 28th, 2020.

Silverlandia

Modern Vibes, Unique Dishes

If you’re like so many, when you first step foot into Momed you might feel that it’s very modern, very trendy, the very picture of a “hip” place in 2022. However, as soon as you look at the menu, you’ll find interesting takes on dishes you may not find anywhere else. For example, their Khachapouri, (with red onions, kalamata olives, beef sujuk, akawi cheese and two organic eggs) isn’t like Khachapouri you’ve had anywhere else (if, indeed, you’ve had Khachapouri at all).

Brunch, Lunch, and Making an Evening of It

One of the best things about Momed is it’s one of those places that you could find yourself just ending up at a few times a week, if not a few times a day. Lunch and brunch are excellent, sitting out on the outdoor patio catching up with folks you haven’t seen in a while.

Then, as the sun lowers and the lights come on, it’s perfect for an intimate dinner over wine with someone special. Or, to spend special time with folks who you may like but know less intimately, the happy hour at Momed (5 to 6 PM) is pretty great, too.

You can find Momed right here.
