In this latest 2023 round of nominations, there happen to be a couple of chefs who are stationed in the kitchen at some Eastside hot spots. Read on to learn more about these restaurants that you need to check out.
Restaurants and Chefs in Line for James Beard Foundation Awards
Silver Lake has always been on the cutting edge of restaurants and nightlife. This trendy Eastside enclave continues to produce sought-after eateries that garner national attention. With the James Beard Foundation Awards set to be given this summer, a couple of Eastside establishments are in a good position to pick up awards. Pijja Palace, which is a modern, Indian sports bar in Silver Lake could be in line to receive an award for Best New Restaurant. So too could the nearby Yangban Society, a Korean American deli and restaurant in the Arts District.
If you have something of a sweet tooth and are looking to indulge in some potentially award-winning pastries, you may want to check out Family & Friends in Hollywood. This bakery is officially a semi-finalist in a new James Beard Foundation Award category, Best New Bakery. When it comes to drinks, Ototo in Echo Park is nominated as a semifinalist in a category for the wine and other beverages program. Ototo is well known for its sake, and it is no real surprise to see it up for awards.
