We all miss restaurants, don’t we? Between the rush of trying a new place or the comfort of hitting up your favorite spot, what’s not to miss? And don’t even get us started on the mere feeling of sharing the space with other people. However, given everything that is going on, it is understandable if you don’t really feel like going out to restaurants, even if they offer outdoor dining. So, how can you balance the safety of yourself and others while also enjoying the experience of going out to get some food? Easy! Millie’s Cafe Serves the Best Outdoor Brunch in Silver Lake

You, like most people in Silver Lake, probably miss brunch. What’s not to miss? The fresh air, the delicious food, the catchup with your friends; it’s all wonderful. The last few months, however, haven’t given us a lot of opportunities for that. If you miss it as well, there are ways to responsibly get outdoor brunch in Silver Lake. And, the best spot for it is undeniably Millie’s Cafe.

Millie’s Cafe

Since 1926, Millie’s Cafe has been a staple of Los Angeles. Both their Silver Lake and Pasadena locations are open every day, serving guests with good old-fashioned breakfast. The folks at Millie’s believe in the difference between doing things the easy way and right way. They say so themselves on their website. “We use real butter to cook our fresh eggs. We use Altadena dairy products because they don’t give their cows hormones. We don’t even like yellow dye in our cheese, so we get white cheddar. We fresh grind each pot of French roast coffee. Our bread is baked fresh daily. Our juices are fresh from Odwalla.” They make as much as they can from scratch because they know there is a difference.

Outdoor Brunch in Silver Lake

If you are looking for a nice outdoor brunch in Silver Lake, Millie’s Cafe is the best way to go. Their extensive menu of deliciously traditional breakfast dishes has something for all tastes. From their breakfast specials, omelets, and eggs benedict, to their pancakes, french toasts, and waffles, the question will be what not to get. If you don’t feel like enjoying outdoor dining just yet, you can always order online for pickup. Just head over to their website to browse their menu and order online. However, if you and your housemates would like to enjoy the outdoors, you can swing by Millie’s Cafe at 3524 W Sunset Blvd. Just remember to wear your mask all the way up to the moment you’re eating!

Find Ballot Drops in Los Angeles for the 2020 Election

The election approaches and, along with it, the time for all of us to carry out our civic duty. From local to presidential elections, you need to make sure that you are informed about every step in the process. Usually, you’d probably wait until Election Day (November 3rd) to cast your vote. However, given the circumstances, there are other options. If you want to avoid the crowds at the polls, you can request a mail-in ballot and drop it off at one of the many ballot drops in Los Angeles.

Ballot Drops in Los Angeles

If you want to learn about all the ballot drops in Los Angeles, visit the official locator. Here, however, you can find the information for all for ballot drops in our area. If need help with the voting process itself, check out our voting guide.

The Area’s Drop Boxes

Silver Lake – First off, Silver Lake. Our beloved neighborhood, the heart of Silverlandia, has one ballot drop. However, it’s not as centrally located as you’d expect. You will find it at 2411 Glendale Boulevard, a few blocks east of the reservoir, in the Silver Lake Branch Library. This drop off location is available 24 hours a day.

Los Feliz – Now, as for the Los Feliz ballot drop, this one is a lot closer to the heart of the neighborhood. This 24-hour ballot drop is at the Los Feliz Branch Library at 1874 Hillhurst Avenue.

Echo Park – You will find the Echo Park ballot drop off at the Edendale Branch Library, where you can also get free COVID testing. This drop is at 2011 Sunset Boulevard and it is, you guessed it, available 24 hours.

Atwater Village – Just like most of the ballot drops in Los Angeles, the Atwater Village drop box is at the local library branch. The Atwater Village Branch Library is at 3618 Revere Avenue, right on Glendale Boulevard. This one is also available 24 hours, of course.

The Five Best Spots for Silver Lake Takeout

Silver Lake is undeniably one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in Los Angeles. The diverse population, eclectic atmosphere, and central location translate into all sorts of different food and dining options. If you, like us, are the kind of person that sticks to the same one or two restaurants in your area, you should know there are countless other options out there. If you’re feeling like having something different tonight, here’s a brief guide on some of the best Silver Lake takeout.

Enjoy the Best Silver Lake Takeout

  • India’s Restaurant – In the heart of Silver Lake, you will find the accurately named India’s Restaurant. They bring the ancestral tradition of Indian cuisine to Los Angeles with a concentration on quality and nutrition. Order the best Indian food in Silver Lake here.
  • Casita del Campo – Casita del Campo, a restaurant founded in 1962, is home to some of the area’s most delicious Mexican food, coziest atmosphere, and the friendliest staff. They are certainly a staple of the community still going strong after all this time, providing the neighborhood with authentic and home-like meals. They have some of the best Silver Lake takeout and you can order some right here.
  • Phat Birds – There’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good plate of fried chicken. We’re not talking about the kind you sometimes get at the grocery store or from a chain restaurant. No, we all know that the real fried chicken is located on Sunset Boulevard and Edgecliffe Drive. Phat Birds will delight you with some of the most flavorful chicken in the city. Order now from their online menu.
  • Silverlake Ramen – A local staple of not only Silver Lake but all Los Angeles, Silverlake Ramen is many people’s go-to ramen joint. Whether it’s in Santa Monica, Downtown, Long Beach, or the seminal Silver Lake location, their delicious menu features some of the best Japanese appetizers, rice bowls, sushi rolls, and, yes, ramen. You can easily order takeout online.

Enjoy a Sunset Hike Up to the Griffith Observatory and See the Stars

The Griffith Observatory, one of the most renowned landmarks in Los Angeles, is entering its seventh month of closure. While this cultural gem of the city remains closed in the interest of public safety, the grounds aren’t. That’s right, you can still go up to this iconic structure and enjoy its gorgeous view of the city. Of course, even though it’s already October we in LA know that the temperatures aren’t dropping just yet. This means that hiking during the day, while traditional, might be a little too hot for some people. That is why we recommend something a little bit different.

Hike Up to the Griffith Observatory

As of today, the observatory itself is still closed to the public. However, general grounds and terraces aren’t. People are still invited to responsibly hike up to the landmark. While it might be too hot for such an upward hike to sound that pleasant, there are other alternatives. What we recommend is hiking in the late afternoon, preferably close to nighttime. This way, you can enjoy lower temperatures, as well as the beautiful sunset, on your way up. Once you are up in one of the terraces of the Griffith Observatory, watching over the city in the golden sunset light, you can relax for a bit. Then, if you are in no hurry, you can stick around and see the stars as nighttime sets in. What better way to spend the evening?

Hike Responsibly

So, what does “responsibly” mean? Well, when hiking, you need to practice social distancing and wear a face covering at all times. Be sure not to gather in groups, especially if you are hiking with people from outside your household. In order to protect wildlife and the park staff, be sure to always pick up after yourself and keep the area clean. For more information on the Griffith Observatory, Griffith Park, and hiking responsibly, head over to their website.
