How to Help Los Angeles During the Coronavirus Outbreak

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”

Fred Rogers, beloved television personality

Although physically we need to keep our distance from each other, we shouldn’t spiritually. Times like these call for union between us, which is why a lot of people keep looking for ways in which they can help through this uncertain crisis. Your community needs your help! If you are looking to help as well, we have gathered a list of a few ways in which you can help Los Angeles and its most vulnerable.

Support Efforts to Distribute Supplies

Ground Game LA is a grassroots group that is focused on building community and electoral power in Los Angeles, mobilizing city residents in favor of better democratic representation, a response to the homelessness crisis, less pollution, and better infrastructure. These are all noble goals, so they always deserve your support. However, right now they are specifically raising funds to purchase and distribute groceries and supplies to people in need. In order to help, you can donate to their GoFundMe or even sign up to volunteer. If you are looking for help yourself, you can fill out this form.

Help Los Angeles Homeless Population

Organizations such as KTown For All, the SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition, and the NoHo Home Alliance are fighting to defend the homeless in Los Angeles from abuse by officials and from the coronavirus outbreak. They are purchasing and distributing food and hygiene kits to people who are homeless across different neighborhoods in Los Angeles. If you would like to help, you can donate to the Noho Home Alliance here, to SELAH here, and to KTown For All through their Venmo at @ktownforall.

Contribute to Relief Funds for Underpaid Staff

The entertainment industry makes up for a large part of the Los Angeles economy. The outbreak has left it at a near-total standstill. Unsurprisingly, this has left its more vulnerable and underpaid staffers without health benefits or stable income. The #PayUpHollywood movement is collecting a relief fund for Hollywood support staff who have been laid off or dismissed. Meanwhile, the Actors Fund is fostering stability and resiliency in freelance and unsupported performers by providing them with a safety net. You can help by donating to #PayUpHollywood and donating to the Actors Fund.
